Bethel, Maine is an exceptional area for outdoor activities and The Sudbury Inn is an ideal location to use as a base. It is within walking distance of shopping (across the street), golf (18 holes up the street and at Sunday River), movies (down the street), Gould Academy, Bethel Camp for the Arts, and the Dr. Moses Mason House Museum. You can also enjoy the Maine Performing Arts Festival, to be held in August, right here in Bethel.
Bicycle loops from 5 to 75 miles begin at the Inn's front door (maps are available at our front desk or at Explore Maine). The Androscoggin River, a wonderful place to fish, bird watch or just paddle a canoe is less than a mile away. If day hikes are your passion, The Sudbury Inn's staff can direct you to wonderful trails in the Mahoosuc mountains, Grafton Notch State Park, or in the Evans Notch region of the White Mountain National Forest. Trailheads are 10 to 15 minutes away from the Inn. For skiers, the Sudbury Inn is located ten minutes from both Sunday River Ski Resort and Mount Abram. Nordic skiers can choose from nearby tracks at Carter's Cross Country Ski Center, and Sunday River.
Moose watching and scenic drives are also popular activities. Innkeepers Bill and Nancy White enjoy all of the above activities and love to share tips on where to go. They are also helpful in connecting guests with local outfitters for canoeing, dog sledding, fishing and snowmobiling.
Need some "down" time? Bethel also offers shopping, a regional history center, a first run movie theater and a public library. The Sudbury Inn's Main Street location is within walking distance of all of these locales.
